And…it’s finished!

It only took 2 weeks; 1 accident; 1 box of Milliput; and a whole lot of blood, sweat and tears; but it is finally finished.

I had K round last night for a painting session, and ended up doing the entire model in one go. I’m lucky that I got my train of thought interrupted by Damos last night to make me think to take a picture.

All the armour plates done

All the armour plates done

As you can see from previous posts, I’d based the entire model in Army Painter Skeleton Bone, and then painted up the armoured parts with GW Screamer Pink. The armour was rather….vivid, but I had a plan.

I next painted all of the flesh with GW Kantor Blue. I tried to use my airbrush for the first time to do this, but it was way too fiddly for a model with this many overlapping parts and crevices. However, the thinned paint I’d used for the airbrush went on far easier than the GW paint does normally.

At this point we reached something that looked like this –>

The next step was to paint all of the claws, teeth and spikey bits that were connected to the flesh tone, with GW Rakarth Flesh. It’s almost identical to the Skeleton Bone, but it has a slightly greyer tone, which is what I needed. It also adds a nice texture. (I should’ve photo’d it at this point, but by then it was just past midnight, and I was so close I just kept going.)

Now I washed the armour with GW Nuln Oil, only a light coat though to stop it pooling. Whilst that was drying I then washed the claws with GW Agrax Earthshade to give them a far more claw-like look. All of that dried and it seemed a bit… dark. So on a whim of fancy I drybrushed all of the blue flesh with some GW Lothern Blue and the model suddenly ‘popped’ and looked so much better.

I’m so happy with this, and with just under a month left before the game and 2 more big creatures to paint, and about 100+ gaunts, you’re going to see a lot more of this paint scheme on here 😛

A little filler

I haven’t had a chance to carry work on the Bio-Titan, so as a reminder to let myself keep updating, I’ll throw up this lovely little moment.

Her figure after it finally dried.

Her figure after it finally dried.

Last weekend, I went to GW to pick up some supplies, and was using some store credit. My three year old daughter (who loves Daddy’smodels) declared that she wanted some of her own. She then proceeded to look at the shop display, and decided that a Grey Knight Dreadknight looked the most like a Transformer, and therefore she wanted to play those. I didn’t have enough spare credit to let her pick  up a Dreadknight, so instead I got her a normal set of Grey Knights (I need the Psycannon & Nemesis hammer to build an Inquisitor).

She ‘helped’ build the model, and then declared “that he had to be all red so it would look like Heatwave” (Her favourite Rescue Bot). She then diligently covered him in base paint, and you can see the result below.

HeatwaveI’m probably going to spend a few minutes this weekend, adding some basic details to him, to make him look more  like the character, but I think I may have created a monster. She now wants all of the rest of the Rescue Bots as models…

Here there be Bio-titans!

My first big project, and to really challenge myself I decided to make a god-damn Heirophant!

I found the very interesting kit-bash idea on Librarium-Online by Damo.R about using two Tervigon kits to provide the parts for the model. This would mean minimal actual modelling, but more customisation. I’m not a skilled modeller, so this appealed immediately.

The thread is located here: -> Kitbashed Heirophant

I spent about 3 hours on it last night and managed to build a leg and the body. So hopefully with another push tonight I should be able to finish the legs and then check positioning for size. I’ve had it on good authority that the FW Heirophant has an 11″ x 11″ model coverage without a base, so I need to see if this version is the same.

Wish me luck, and as always, feel free to comment 😉
